Dear Hiring Manager,
I wanted to reach out because your Junior Software Engineer posting came up at the right point in my career. For the past several years, I’ve been the person handling hardware issues, troubleshooting network problems, and bringing systems online from the ground up. This hands on experience is what pushed me toward software, and now I’m focused on building and automating solutions instead of just supporting them. I’m currently finishing my Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering at Western Governors University (WGU, 2026) and my experience working directly with systems has shaped how I approach writing reliable and efficient code.
My current title is Systems Support Technician at Kelly Services Inc., where I work in a datacenter supporting server validation platforms. On a typical day, I might re-image a rack of Windows machines, troubleshoot firmware issues through diagnostic logs, and coordinate with other teams to keep work moving through the ticket queue. One project I’m proud of is a set of Postman collections I built using environment variables to automate repetitive API calls for system updates and bulk ticketing. That experience showed me how much impact even small automation improvements can have which motivates me more to pursue software engineering more seriously.
Before Kelly Services I spent just over a year at Apple as a Technical Specialist, where I handled more than customer appointments every month at the Genius Bar. That experience forced me to get good at explaining technical problems in plain language and staying calm when five people are waiting for answers at the same time. Earlier still, I worked at Best Buy on the Geek Squad, building custom PCs, fixing home theater setups, and teaching customers how to troubleshoot on their own so they would not need to come back for the same issue.
On the credentials side I earned a Google IT Support Professional Certificate(Google, 2022) that gave me a structured foundation in networking, operating systems, and security. I also completed the Postman API Fundamentals Student Expert program (Postman, 2025), which deepened my understanding of RESTful APIs, request chaining, and test scripting. Between those certifications and my ongoing coursework in Python, C#, and web technologies, I feel ready to contribute from the start while continuing to grow.
I would love the chance to talk with you about how my blend of infrastructure experience and software training could be useful on your team. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Jaime Hernandez
